"I care about the big things."
Male human, 24
Beast Link: Harlequin Monitor
Hideyoshi is a young man from Strater Village. He worked as an apprentice blacksmith before heading out with Kaori to stop the monster threat. He's been defending the village since he was 8 when he defeated his first monster. Since then, he's been training nonstop, learning the basics of fighting from the local martial artist Master Eyung, running the perimeter of the village daily, and strength training with his eventual employer and smithing mentor, Shiori Sakaname. Hideyoshi carries around his best made swords, a claymore and an iato. He prefers to use his fists but understands there are circumstances that will require a weapon. Unfortunately, he only knows the basics of swordplay from Shiori. No one else in the village is an expert swordsman, and he didn't ask any armed travelers that occasionally pass through the village.
Hideyoshi acts aloof and indifferent, but he empathizes easily with people and speaks bluntly. However, if he deems someone stupid or evil, he will disregard anything they say. Hideyoshi started his training in the first place to protect his adopted sister, Agatha. That drive soon applied to the rest of the village which further fueled the intensity of his training. He doesn't mind being called Hide for short though most people seem to use his full name anyway.
While he has seen a lot happen in the village, Hideyoshi is largely ignorant of everything outside of it.
Hideyoshi is immensely strong, fast with sharp reflexes, and clever on the battlefield at least. His personal experience is that monsters don't play fair; so there's no reason why he should either. He'll use all kinds of distractions, misdirections, feints, and dirty tricks to win. Hideyoshi can fight fair and honorably and appreciates when he can, but all of his prior fighting experience has been win or the village is destroyed.

It doesn't matter who has made you
It doesn't matter where you are
You could be born in China
Or nay other place, near or far.
It only matters what you do
And how you play the game
Of life itself, no easy task
To get to wealth and fame
Or perhaps you want a simpler life
Which is quite alright
But for both you must always work
Be it rain, snow, day or night.
We are only what we make ourselves
So let's get this straight right now
Don't listen to what others say
At the end be sure you can say...
Wow...
Care not for servants. traitors, sycophants and liars
Nor for life's many pits, trips, potholes and briars.
Focus on your chosen path and stick t

I came up with this guy with the idea of there being a big problem of monsters in the world, and there's no legendary hero, no descendant of a myth, no prophesy. Just a guy who's gonna take care of it because no one else is. And I've actually written for this story. Well the dialogue at least.
I'll...get to what Beast Links are in a story later.
I originally wanted it to be Komodo, but then I remembered the island of Komodo does not exist in this world. So I changed it to what a Komodo dragon is: a big monitor lizard.
If you can't write Japanese, resort to Japanese pronunciation of English phrases. Slightly racist, but it works.
